E40 Gas Discharge Lamps
E40 Gas discharge lamps give an intense light and are also known as HID bulbs, or High Intensity Discharge bulbs. The gas discharge lamp uses a ballast and needs a moment to burn at full power. The high pressure gas discharge lamps are available in different varieties like the energy-efficient HPI bulbs or the SON bulbs, that are perfect for use in functional outdoor lighting. When replacing, be mindful of the fact that a switched on HID bulb is very hot. Therefore, let the light bulb cool or use a cloth.
The colour code is a combination of colour rendering (CRI) and light colour (Kelvin). The first number indicates the colour rendering (1 = very poor colour rendering, 9 = maximum colour fastness). The second and third number contains the light colour. Example: the colour code 830 consists of good colour rendering (8) and warm white light (3000K).
